Aim

The aim of Swan Hill Incorporated is to promote the Swan Hill region as a place to:

  • Invest and do business
  • Live
  • Work
  • Shop, buy and be serviced, and
  • Visit

This will improve the overall wealth of local communities and provide a secure future for their people, by:

(i) Expanding the level of new investment in the Swan Hill region and hence the number of jobs created;

(ii) Increasing the number of people moving into the region to take up job opportunities, to retire or to commence a business;

(iii) Enhancing the level of expenditure in the retail and service sectors by attracting new shoppers from the wider regional catchment or by preventing leakage to other centres from the existing population; and

(iv) Growing the number of visitations, length of stay and level of visitor expenditure.

Swan Hill Inc Members

Swan Hill Inc implements a co-ordinated marketing and business development program to which every business in the industrial, commercial, retail and tourism sectors contributes through the special rate scheme. All Swan Hill Rural City Council rateable properties in the retail, commercial, industrial, tourism and hospitality sectors in the Swan Hill region are automatically rated.

Structure

There are two main levels in Swan Hill Inc’s structure, the Main Board and the Industry Sector Committees - including Tourism Hospitality, Retail and Industrial, Trade & Professional Industries Committee.

Working groups can also be formed on an as needs basis. Unless otherwise stated all committees and working groups are ruled by the rules of the constitution.

Distribution of Funds

The Special Rate and voluntary funds raised by Swan Hill Inc are distributed between Industry Sector committees and a general marketing and promotion fund. Each industry sector receives a portion of the money raised from the members of their Sector.

Although this figure may vary at the discretion of the Main Board, 50% of the money raised by Swan Hill Inc is allocated to the general fund and the remaining 50% allocated to each Industry Sector.

Although the money is allocated to individual committees, the Board still has the final say on how the funds are to be spent. Each year the Industry Sector Committees must prepare a budget on how their allocated funds are to be spent the following year, prior to the May Board meeting.

At this meeting, the Board either approves or amends the Industry Sectors’ budgets. The approved budgets are then collated into one marketing plan and budget to be presented for Council’s approval prior to June to ensure the funds are available from the Council on 30 September each year.

Responsibilities of Industry Sector Committees

· To hold an AGM each year to elect new office bearers

· Representation, as best as possible, on the committee from across the industry sector

· To hold at least four industry sector committee meetings per year

· To submit an Industry Sector budget by May each year

· Communication and consultation with all sector members, especially regarding the sector budget

· Implementation of the Committee’s budgets once approved by the Main Board

· Utilisation of the Swan Hill region – heart of the murray logo, theme, imagery and slogan in all materials
