With a rich and varied history, the Swan Hill region offers visitors many opportunities to ‘step back in time’ and experience the world in which our pioneers and early settlers lived.

Visitors can learn about the ingenuity, hardship and dedication of the people living in inland Australia from 1830 to 1930 by visiting the Pioneer Settlement. Explore more than 50 accurately recreated buildings and view the extensive collection of historic machinery, equipment and household items. What’s more, the museum is alive with pioneer based activities  that really immerse visitors in an authentic experience of time and place.

Heritage experiences around Swan Hill region include:

  • Embrace the past with a visit to the Pioneer Settlement
  • Take a cruise on the river on the 1896 paddle steamer, PS Pyap
  • View the "Burke and Wills Tree" - the largest Moreton Bay Fig in the Southern Hemisphere
  • See the Aboriginal Ring Tree located just South of Tooleybuc
